Weyburn, Estevan police services receive cash infusion

There will be five new police officers on the scene in Weyburn and Estevan.

The provincial government is providing the Weyburn Police Service with $220,000 and the Estevan Police Service with $330,000 through municipal police grants.

The funding will go to two police officers in Weyburn who will work on serious crime initiatives and as part of Community Traffic Services Saskatchewan.

“This funding helps support the work of the Weyburn Police Service with two sworn members who help ensure the safety of Weyburn and area,” Weyburn Chief of Police Marlo Pritchard said in a news release.

“We appreciate the partnership we have with the province to help ensure the safety of Weyburn communities and families.”

Similarly, the province’s money will fund three officers in Estevan.

“These three officers perform important duties for our city and surrounding area,” Estevan Chief of Police Paul Ladouceur said.  

“Estevan communities and families are safer because of this important partnership we have with the province.”

This funding is part of $14.2 million provided to Saskatchewan communities for 125 targeted police officer positions across the province. Since 2008, more than $109 million has been invested through municipal police grants, with Weyburn receiving more than $1.8 million and Estevan receiving more than $2.5 million.
