A First Nation school was placed in lockdown after a student was armed with a knife.
The Wakaw RCMP detachment received a call around 12:24 p.m. Thursday from the Almightyvoice Education Centre on the One Arrow First Nation.
RCMP said an 11-year-old student had been secured in a grade five classroom with a knife. RCMP said there were no other students present. School officials placed the school on lockdown.
Wakaw RCMP went to the school and were able to intervene with the student and secured the knife with no injury to anyone.
The lockdown was then lifted. Rosthern and Prince Albert detachments were also en route to assist.
The student was apprehended under the Mental Health Act and was taken by police, accompanied by family, to the Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert for assessment.
RCMP said One Arrow First Nation Band Council members were present and were instrumental in delivering support and assistance to the family.
