A loss prevention officer – also known as a store security guard – was taken to hospital Saturday with non-life threatening injuries after being stabbed by an alleged shoplifter.
Regina police said the 25-year-old security guard observed a woman trying on a jacket in a store by Hamilton and Saskatchewan Drive, before allegedly leaving without paying. After approaching the woman and identifying himself, the security guard attempted to arrest her. That’s when it’s alleged the woman stabbed him.
The security guard was still able to handcuff the woman. A bag of stolen merchandise was seized as the woman was arrested and charged.
Police have charged 31-year-old Janelle Sangwais with shoplifting and assault with a weapon. She appeared in court in Regina on Monday.
