The World leader of the Ahmadiyya Muslim community was in Regina Friday.
Caliph Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad inaugurated the city’s first purpose built mosque. the Mahmood Mosque is the first in Regina that was built with the intention of being a mosque while others in the city were set up in pre-existing buildings.
The Caliph unveiled a commemorative plaque and offered a prayer. He then delivered a Friday Sermon that was broadcasted around the world.
“Wherever, even if it’s in a small community, we need mosque,” Ahmad, the Caliph, said. “We need some place of worship.”
The Caliph also said a lot of members of the community came to Canada because they were being persecuted in Pakistan and they are free to practice in Canada.
“Everyday should be a new step forward so that we attain higher goals of life and spiritual level.”
There are tens of thousands of followers of the religion in Canada.
Premier Brad Wall met with the Caliph Friday evening.
