A 26-year-old man from Kerrobert has been charged in the suspicious death of his father.
It all happened in the early morning of Nov. 2, when Kindersley RCMP received a call about a stolen semi from a farm north of Kerrobert.
Another call came in to the RCMP about the sudden death of a 53-year-old man at a home in the community. When officers arrived, they found the body of Johan Klassen Sr.
RCMP found the stolen semi in a slough near the Alberta border, northwest of Luseland in the RM of Heart’s Hill.
Officers said it was in approximately four feet of water and about 30 metres from shore.
According to police, a man inside would not exit the semi. Officers contained the scene and the Saskatchewan RCMP Emergency Response Team was deployed.
At around 2 p.m., Johan Klassen Jr. was safely taken into custody and charged with one count of second-degree murder.
The accused appeared in Saskatoon Provincial Court on Friday. He walked in with his head down and eyes averted from people in the gallery who were crying.
After the hearing, one of the men believed to be connected to the family left court and was greeted by a throng of media. He told reporters if they had any remorse, they would stop following him.
“Do you guys have family members? What if somebody got killed?” he asked, before telling everyone to back off.
Klassen Jr. is scheduled to be in court again Nov. 23 via video link.
Kerrobert is located around 52 kilometres north of Kindersley.
