An accident along a grid road northwest of Weyburn caused a power outage this afternoon for the city and surrounding communities.
Police received a call at 2:48 p.m. on Thursday, that a trailer truck carrying a grain bin had contacted a 25,000 volt overhead powerline.
The truck was heading southbound along a grid road, north of the Viterra grain elevators along Highway 39.
No injuries are being reported but the vehicle’s tires were blown out on impact.
Police said the driver was able to backup the truck before the power came back on. This was said to spare the driver and vehicle from further damage.
SaskPower was first on the scene and told Discover Weyburn the power outage affected Yellow Grass, Milestone and Francis. SaskPower added some communities south and east of Weyburn were affected as well.
Occupational Health and Safety has been informed and the investigation is ongoing to find out the cause.
It is reported that all power has been restored to Weyburn and surrounding communities.
