Fort McMurray continues to rebuild after a wildfire forced residents to leave.
Six months have passed since the city was evacuated on May 3 and people are working towards returning to how things were before the fire.
Russell Thomas lives in Fort McMurray and was among those who had to leave.
“A lot has happened in six months, I can promise you already houses are going up and we’re starting to see a return to normal,” Thomas told the 980 CJME Morning Show.
The wildfire forced more than 80,000 people to leave their homes back in May. Thomas said some families couldn’t find a place to live if theirs was lost and so they have decided to not come back to the city.
“When we got back home, it was quickly back to normal so we got very, very lucky,” Thomas said.
Thomas said the schools are full because some couldn’t be reopened so students had to be redistributed throughout the school division.
