Jamie Nye: No need for Durant to play Saturday

There is only one reason I’m playing Darian Durant on Saturday and it would only be for one single snap.

A bonus. If part of Darian Durant’s contract that is incentive laden is pay-per-start, then yes, you owe it to Durant to put him behind centre for the first play of the game. But it should be that only. One play, one snap, one hand-off. Good night Darian.

Three weeks ago, Chris Jones told media that his priorities were winning and evaluating quarterbacks. He’s done a terrible job at doing both.

The lack of evaluating quarterbacks is far less forgiving than the wins. With Durant’s contract negotiations appearing like they are going nowhere, evaluating the potential next guy needed to be the number one priority.

The team is barely further ahead in that regard than they were a few weeks ago.

Saturday’s game should be all about seeing GJ Kinne, Brandon Bridge and Mitchell Gale or whatever duo of quarterbacks is behind Darian Durant.

If Durant plays more than a series, behind an offensive line that got Jake Waters put in a sling, it’ll be more proof contract negotiations are going south if they’re willing to risk his health in the final meaningless game of the season.
