The Regina Pats are number one!
For the first time in 24 years of weekly CHL rankings, the Pats sit atop the junior hockey rankings. That doesn’t mean they’re the best team, it just means they’re playing the best right now, the last team to lose a game in regulation time.
The Pats are also the oldest team in Canadian junior hockey. They’re about to be 100 years old. In conjunction with their centennial they want to play host to the 2017 Memorial Cup, if they can get a new lease at their arena. That’s a recurring theme with this franchise – lease issues.
Sitting atop the rankings, that’s something new. Head coach John Paddock has built a high-scoring team led by centres Adam Brooks, Sam Steel and Jake Leschyshyn. They’re fun to watch, especially on Weiner Wednesday. If only their latest game hadn’t gone up against Game 7 of the World Series!
