Health Minister gets shot to fight the flu

It’s time to roll up your sleeve for the flu shot.

Health Minister Jim Reiter got his shot this morning at a pharmacy in Regina.

“Flu can be extremely dangerous. We want people to be healthy so we’re encouraging everyone to do that,” he said.

“It could save a serious illness so it’s certainly worth a few minutes out of your life that it takes.”

The free clinics are open throughout the city. This is the second year pharmacists can give the shot. Last year pharmacists gave 56,000 flu shots in the province.

“As more and more people realize it more and more people will utilize it. So we expect it to continue to climb. We are very happy with the way it’s going,” said Reiter.

Reiter hopes this year’s shot will be very effective.

“I guess time will tell, right. When they design these the experts do their best. There’s different strains of viruses that can affect people. Some in the past have been more effective than others. Certainly we’re hoping this year’s will be very effective,” he said.

The clinics are open until Dec. 19.
