A high-speed chase through Saskatoon’s downtown core left two vehicles damaged near the Delta Bessborough Monday morning.
Saskatoon police said an officer initiated a traffic stop near 29th Street and Idylwyld Drive at around 9:30 a.m. The truck in question didn’t stop, and began evading police.
Several police units pursued the vehicle through downtown at speeds nearing 80 km/h before it crashed into a legally parked car on 21st Street near the Bessborough two minutes after the chase began.
The 25-year-old driver, a Saskatoon man, fled on foot but was apprehended a few metres from the crash site. He is facing charges of failing to stop and possessing stolen property.
Police said they’re also investigating a charge of impaired driving.
A second person in the truck, a 21-year-old woman, didn’t run from police and was released without charges.
No-one was reported injured in the incident.
