Despite a damning report by the Children’s Advocate over a baby’s death, the Ministry of Social Services continues to work with the Saskatoon Tribal Council.
Earlier this summer the government took the council to court for failure to provide basic reporting information and since took back control of child welfare.
The two sides are working to resolve these ongoing issues.
“Working with these seven bands has been on the ground very good and very positive, the communities have been working very closely with the ministry and it has been a good working relationship,” said Natalie Huber, with the Ministry of Social Services.
“Right now the matters are before the court between STC and the ministry so I am not in a position to respond publicly about too much in terms of those details.”
The government continues to have agreements with 16 other First Nation agencies to deliver child welfare in this province.
