A mother and fiancé is the latest victim of alleged drinking and driving in the province.
Adrienne Daigneault was in the passenger seat of a Kia Spectra stopped at a red light on Albert Street on Saturday. A Dodge Journey slammed into the back of the car, killing Daigneault.
Police said the driver was impaired and driving at excessive speeds.
Diagneault was supposed to get married next August and had planned to go wedding dress shopping over the Thanksgiving long weekend.
She leaves behind a 9-year-old son Aiden.
Family friend Dennis Smythe started the Go Fund Me page to raise money for Daigneault’s son and fiancé.
“My friend and his fiancé were hit at red light by a drunk driver. Sadly her life was taken,” wrote Smythe on the Go Fund Me page.
“As you can imagine right now is an incredibly difficult and painful time for them. They will need a lot of time to heal and I would like to try to provide some sort of relief through raising some funds. They have enough to deal with right now and it would be nice if we could take away some of the stress.”
As of Tuesday afternoon $3,236 has been raised in two days. The money will support the family by paying rent, bills and groceries.
“Eric is an amazing man who would help anyone in need and Aiden is too young to be without his mom. Let’s try to do what we can and help them out during this time,” wrote Smythe.
The driver of the Dodge, 28-year-old Brendan Sugar, was charged with impaired driving causing death, exceed .08 causing death, exceed .08 causing bodily harm and impaired driving causing bodily harm.
He will remain in custody until his bail hearing Friday morning.
