There’s trouble in the RM of Sherwood after the deputy reeve was charged with corruption.
On Wednesday, the municipality sent out a statement saying Tim Probe, 57, had been charged with breach of trust and municipal corruption. The Regina Police Service confirmed the charges but would only say the crimes were committed on February 2, 2016, at, or near, Regina.
As a result of the charges, the province is asking for Probe’s resignation. In a release on Wednesday afternoon, the Ministry of Government Relations said it’s not in the public’s interest to have Probe continue to serve on council while facing the charges.
The ministry also said if Probe won’t step down, then the province has the power to remove him from his post.
The RM said it would be cooperating with police, but would not be commenting further on it.
It also said, “this matter will not affect the operation of the RM”.
This isn’t the first time there have been similar problems in the RM In February 2015 then-reeve, Kevin Eberle, was removed from his position by the province after an investigation into the Wascana Village development found conflicts of interest and violations of the public trust.
