A Regina man is facing a total of 36 charges in connection with a recent break and enter along with drugs and weapons found in a vehicle.
Around 6:30 a.m. Monday, officers were dispatched to the 100 block of McCaul Crescent in north Regina for a report of a sick or injured person. Once they arrived, they noticed a man slumped over the sheering wheel of a truck.
EMS arrived at the scene too and took the man to hospital for possible intoxication by drugs.
When officers checked the licence plate of the vehicle, it showed up as a stolen plate. The truck appeared to be full of items, which further investigation revealed were stolen. The truck was then seized.
When police found out who the man was, it was revealed he was also the subject of outstanding warrants for possession of stolen property.
During a search of the vehicle, meth and heroin, brass knuckles, bear spray, and two long-barrelled guns were found.
Once the man was treated and cleared at the hospital, he was taken to the Regina Police Service detention area.
Mark Timothy Popowich, 34, of Regina, is facing, among other things, charges for possession of a firearm in a vehicle, possession of stolen property over $5,000, and attempt break and enter.
Popowich made his first court appearance in Regina on Tuesday.
