Football fans may find parking to be a bit different for the game between the University of Regina Rams and University of Saskatchewan Huskies on Oct. 1 at new Mosaic Stadium.
Those planning on parking at Evraz for the game will need a pass in order to do so.
The passes weren’t available to be purchased and have already been distributed.
Paula Kohl, Executive Director of Marketing and Communications for Regina Exhibition Association Limited, said this event will help them test how well a pass system works at their facility.
“We just want to monitor the traffic flows and look to the future at how we do drop-offs, paratransit and bus drop-offs,” Kohl said.
While the remainder of the current Roughrider’s season won’t see any changes to parking at Evraz, a change is in the works for next year.
“So those 10 games next year, we’re going to look at a presold season parking pass,” Kohl said.
She also said that pricing and other details of the pass have not yet been worked out.
The Regina Exhibition Association Limited said they have contacted those involved with other events happening on site that day and have made arrangements for parking.
OTHER PARKING LOTS
There is $10 parking available around the old stadium, there are some parking spots that fans are used to using that won’t be available.
Executive Director of City Services and Major Projects with the city, Kim Onrait, said the lot across from the armory is being used by the armory on game day and there won’t be public parking on the lot that runs along the railway by the stadium.
Onrait said the event will give them an idea of how successful the Transportation and Parking Plan is.
“Once we go through the first test event and get some feedback, that will assist us in decision making moving forward.”
Transit
Free transit is available for the games for those who want to avoid parking.
“We are encouraging people to, if they haven’t tried transit to come to a major event, to certainly try it out,” Onrait said.
Transit service will be beginning at 11:45 a.m. Buses will leave from the Southland Mall, Northgate Mall, Victoria Square Mall and Normanview Shopping Centre. A downtown shuttle will also be offered with two stops: one at the Delta Hotel at Saskatchewan Drive and Hamilton Street and the other at Victoria Park near Victoria Avenue and Scarth Street.
