The Regina Public Schools Adult Campus will be moving and getting a name change.
Starting in the 2017-18 school year, the campus will be located at 4210 4th Ave., right by Lewvan Drive. The building is the former Wascana School and the current temporary location of Ecole Connaught Community School.
The new campus will be named the Allan Blakeney Adult Campus, after Saskatchewan’s 10th Premier.
Blakeney was Saskatchewan’s Premier from 1971 to 1982, and the leader of the Saskatchewan New Democratic Party.
“The move of the adult campus gives us a rare opportunity to recognize our province’s 10th Premier,” said Katherine Gagne, the chairperson of Regina Public Schools in a news release.
In the same news release, Greg Enion, Director of Education, stated “our lease on the downtown location was set to end and we will be having a recently refurbished building vacated at the end of the 2016-17 school year. And while the move will save the school division several hundred thousand dollars annually and make effective use of surplus space, this move will specifically benefit our students.”
The move to the new location will take place next summer to create as little disruption to students and staff as possible.
The adult campus is a program for adults ages 18 to 21 who have not completed high school. It offers day and evening courses and a variety of programs that will enhance post-secondary education and career/employment opportunities.
It has been serving adult students since 2004, and in 2015-16 had 750 students taking its programs.
