It is expected Andrew Scheer will become a candidate for the leadership of the Conservative Party Wednesday.
He will be making an announcement at the National Press Theater in Ottawa.
The Regina MP stepped down as opposition house leader earlier this month, making his path clear to enter the race.
At the time he wrote “My consultations about a possible run for the Conservative Leadership have been very encouraging and I would like to continue to explore the feasibility of such an endeavor.”
He also held a series of events, both in Regina and elsewhere throughout the summer, to test the waters of what support he may have from party members.
Scheer has been the Regina-Qu’Appelle MP since 2004 and served as Speaker of the House of Commons from 2011 to 2015.
He is married with five children and is seen as a staunch conservative.
