Preston Crossing is entering its final phase of development and Saskatoon will be getting some new shopping options.
Ronmor Developers Vice President Doug Porozni said they’re close to completing a deal that will bring Bed, Bath and Beyond to the shopping centre.
“We’re just working through the lease and the technical details on the building,” he said. “But we’re pretty close.”
The addition would be the chain’s second location in Saskatchewan. The other is located in Regina’s south end.
Porozni said there’s no concern about overlapping product choice with other stores in the plaza, like Home Outfitters.
“More is always better,” he said. “It’s like a food court. If you have one tenant, it’s not a very good food court. If you have five or six, it’s much better.”
He noted Bed, Bath and Beyond would be an anchor tenant of the fifth phase of Preston Crossing’s development along with GoodLife Fitness, which is already signed on.
Eighteen businesses totaling 100,000 sq. ft. are being added in total. Other amenities include a Starbucks and a Skechers shoe store.
The development is expected to be completed by fall 2017, but the construction isn’t expected to cause any customer disruptions at existing businesses.
Paving of the additional parking areas is expected to be complete by October.
Porozni thanked city administration and university officials for helping make the final phase of development happen.
The University of Saskatchewan owns the land, but leases it to developers on a long-term basis.
