Is crime really on the rise in rural Saskatchewan?
There is definitely crime being committed in areas outside of larger urban centres, but it’s unknown if it’s rising, falling or on par with the average. Addressing media earlier this week, RCMP weren’t able to say.
The Mounted Police Professional Association of Canada have also claimed rural areas are significantly understaffed. The RCMP have explained the challenges they face are no different than what any organization would encounter. The Mounties said they respond to and investigate all calls that come in, regardless of area.
To get a sense of how those living in rural areas perceive crime, News Talk Radio’s Kevin Martel went down Highway 33 southeast of Regina to Lajord as detailed in today’s Martel on the Move.
