The Amalgamated Transit Union 615 served the city of Saskatoon 48-hour strike notice Friday afternoon.
That means people can expect service disruptions as early as Sunday, Sept. 18 at 5:00 pm.
The union said late Friday the strike shall include activities such as work to rule, slowdown, study sessions, overtime bans, not wearing uniforms, rotating strikes, partial or complete cessation of work and any other combination thereof and will include all reasonable definitions of the terms “strike.”
Transit workers have been without a contract since 2012.
Wages and pensions have been the major sticking points in negotiations.
The City of Saskatoon responded with a news released on Friday afternoon.
“We are disappointed to receive strike notice since we have been bargaining all week and have made significant progress,” said Marno McInnes, director of human resources with the city.
The city recently released numbers showing the wages it’s offering are close to other cities like Regina and Winnipeg.
