Federal infrastructure money coming to Sask.

Infrastructure money for Canadian cities is beginning to now flow from the Trudeau administration, and that includes Saskatchewan.

In what is being called Phase One, the focus is on transit and clean and waste water projects across the country before Phase Two moves into the social needs, like rinks.

“Infrastructure is the foundation of the Canada we want to build for tomorrow,” said Federal Minister Ralph Goodale.  “We are very pleased to have reached an agreement with Saskatchewan, which will make over $236.6 million in combined funding available so that Saskatchewan communities can address their specific infrastructure priorities.”

Under the new Clean Water and Wastewater Fund, $89,342,112 is being provided which will fund 50 per cent of the 10 projects being addressed.

Additional approval will be given to the projects over the coming six months.

Under the Public Transit Infrastructure Fund, again with 50 per cent of the cost coming from the federal government, 12 projects have been given approval.

“Infrastructure investments are a top priority for the Government of Saskatchewan; they foster growth and improve the quality of life in our communities,” Minister of Government Relations Donna Harpauer said.
