Regina Police Service will begin using an e-ticketing system

Regina Police Service officers will now have an e-ticketing system in their vehicles.

Traffic Safety cars have already been using the e-ticketing system since Aug. 31.

A swipe machine and printer have been added to the existing computers in vehicles.

Police officers are now able to just swipe the driver’s license and enter the offence into the computer. A ticket is then generated with the amount and a court date printed onto it. At the end of the officer’s shift, the computer uploads the information to the police agency computer and then to the Fine Collection/Court database.

Regina Police Service said this benefits drivers because they no longer have to wait on the side of the road for so long to receive their ticket.

“It’s kind of a bad news/good news tale,” said Inspector Evan Bray, from the Regina Police Service, in a press release.  “The bad news is: if you speed, you’ll get a ticket. The good news is: if we can issue an e-ticket, we’ll get you on your way sooner.”

Only traffic cars currently have the systems installed. Patrol cars will be getting these new systems installed over the course of the next few years.

This is the first use of an e-ticketing system for municipal police services in Saskatchewan.

RCMP detachments have been able to use the e-ticketing service since 2013.
