Carmichael Outreach received some unusable donations last Friday.
Tyler Gray, communications with Carmichael Outreach, says the staff got back after a few days of meetings to find a mess outside of their building.
“Some folks had came by and had left some, loosely termed, donations at the back of the building for us,” Gray said.
Gray described the items left as “mostly unusable,” and “passed its life cycle.”
However, he says cases like these are very rare and the vast majority of donations are put to very good use by people who need them.
“It’s a very small group of people who would ever put us in the circumstance that we found ourselves in last week.”
Carmichael Outreach accepts donations of all kinds of items ranging from clothing to toys to pots and pans.
“[A] diverse group of items that people bring that maybe some of the people that we work with would never have the chance to afford.”
The non-profit group collects an average of 10 to 15 donations each day.
