Fourteen students will be able to attend Luther College High School thanks to a large donation.
The $500,000 donation comes from the Dilawri Group and will give many students a chance to go to the school over the next 10 years.
Ajay Dilawri is one of the founders of the group.
“Luther College is an exceptional school and I had the privilege of going here, and we just want to give other children the opportunity that I had in life,” said Dilawri.
The money will be used for scholarships and financial aid.
“We don’t believe that just because of your financial situation at home that you shouldn’t have a chance to have this experience in life,” Dilawri said.
The high school is semi-private, meaning that though it gets about 70 per cent of its funding from the province, tuition from students pays the rest.
Bryan Hillis, president of Luther, said diversity is a big part of the school and the money will allow them to bring in more students of different backgrounds.
“We want to make sure that everybody who wants to come to Luther College has an opportunity,” he said.
