The names of three new public joint-use schools have been unveiled at an announcement by the Regina Board of Education.
Tuesday evening, it was revealed the facility in Harbour Landing will be called Ecole Harbour Landing School, the one in Greens on Gardiner will be named Ecole Wascana Plains School, and the one in Rosewood Park will be Plainsview School.
Hundreds of possible names were submitted by students, staff, and residents in the Regina area through the Regina Public Schools’ “Name Your School” campaign.
In a news release, Chair of the Regina Board of Education Katherine Gagne stated “we are grateful to our students and staff, as well as to the citizens of Regina for sending us so many names for the Board to consider. Narrowing down our choices to a short list and then deciding on the final three names was a challenge.”
Gagne added they are pleased that the names chosen reflect the communities, the heritage and geography in which they will exist for decades to come.
Two of the schools — Ecole Harbour Landing School and Ecole Wascana Plains School — will be home to French and English programs. Plainsview School will feature an English program.
All three are scheduled to open in 2017.
