Students and teachers at schools east of Regina are starting the school year in mourning for a principal who was killed in a crash near Southey on Labour Day.
On Tuesday, Greenall High School in Balgonie shared the news that Glenda Elliott was killed in an accident. People in the community are also mourning the loss of her husband Jerry who was also killed in the crash.
People in the close-knit small town are remembering her as a kind person and wonderful principal who will be greatly missed. They are sending condolences to the family, and sharing memories on Facebook.
Elliott was starting a new position as principal of Balcarres Community School this year. She previously worked at Fort Qu’Appelle School and at Greenall.
Students at the schools were told of about her death on Tuesday morning and counsellors were brought in to help them deal with their grief.
Police were called to the scene of a crash at an uncontrolled intersection between two grid roads on Monday afternoon. A 24-year-old woman was driving southbound and the Elliotts were driving east when the vehicles collided at the intersection.
Police are still looking into what caused the crash, but say alcohol was not a factor.
There is no update on the condition of the 24-year-old woman who was flown to hospital by STARS Air Ambulance.
