Changes coming for some bus routes in Regina this week

Some Regina bus routes will see some changes this week.

Nathan Luhning, the manager of business development with Regina Transit, said with the University of Regina starting its U-Pass program, where students pay for a bus pass as part of their student fees, changes needed to be made.

“We knew that there was going to be an increased amount of students on the bus as well, so we need to make sure some of our base routes, that’s core routes which service the university had increased capacity.”

Luhning said the city will be also establishing a new route called the University, Arcola East route to help get students to the university.

The decision of where to add buses was made after discussions with the University of Regina Students Union, according to Luhning.

“Through a process of negotiation with URSU, when we listened to them we were looking for what kind of service would benefit their students the most.”

U-PASS CHANGES 

Route 22 University/Arcola is a new route servicing residential areas in the east end, including Windsor Park, Greens on Gardiner, the Creeks and Wascana View. 

Routes 3, 4, 30 will have additional trips during morning and afternoon peak times.

Route 18, 21 will run throughout the day and will not have a break in service in the middle of the day.  

Routes 18, 21, 22 will have an added late-night trip at 10 p.m. from the University of Regina.

HIGH SCHOOL CHANGES

The University of Regina is not the only place that will be seeing more buses.

Luhning said some Regina high schools will be seeing more service as well. Current bus routes in the city’s southeast which serve Campbell, LeBoldusand Balfour will see more buses. Luhning said the city will be offering a new route in northwest Regina, which aims to offer high school students in that part of town more routes to get to school.
