A giant Jenga competition will be one of the many activities drawing people to downtown Regina Thursday night.
The last Market Under the Stars for the summer season is on at City Square Plaza in Regina. Dee Kitsch, marketing manager for the Regina Farmers’ Market is confident there will be a lot of community support.
“Last year was great, this year was even better,” she said. “We sold more food, we sold more liquor tastes. We had higher attendance. There really was quite a buzz on the plaza.”
Kitsch said the market is an important event to have in Regina, noting that the city doesn’t have as much nightlife as bigger cities.
“We’re bringing some life to the downtown after work hours are over,” she said. “I think it’s something just to keep people engaged.”
The variety of food is something that is always a highlight for people and Kitsch said it’s her favourite part as well. In addition to the food trucks, regular vendors will be preparing a food taste instead of having the food packaged at their booth.
“The whole premise behind it is that all the food tastes that are offered have a featured market ingredient or they are a current market product,” Kitsch said. “It’s really to get out there that this is what we have at the Farmers’ Market and this is how it can be prepared.”
In addition to the food, there will be plenty of live entertainment and activities for people to enjoy including a yoga party, salsa dancing, and a surprise musical guest at 6 p.m.
The event begins at 5 p.m. and will end at 10 p.m. The Farmers’ Market will continue on the City Square Plaza every Wednesday and Saturday until October 8 and will move indoors after that.
