One of Canada’s Olympians has returned home to Saskatchewan.
Women’s wrestler Jillian Gallays arrived at the Saskatoon international airport Tuesday morning.
Fresh off 24 hours of flights back from Rio, she said that after a long snooze in her own bed, Gallays looking forward to spending some time with family and friends who supported her as she chased the chance to compete on the world’s biggest stage.
“I feel like I have been so selfish and they’ve been so kind to me, with me focusing on me that I’m just so ready to give back to them and appreciate them,” she said.
With the competition wrapped up, the 29-year-old from Saskatoon said she’s planning a long layoff before she gets back on the mat.
“I’m going to take a significant amount of time off, just to heal my body. I’ve had a lot of injuries in the last couple years. I want to continue in the sport and I want to continue healthy,” she said.
