Chase and series of hit-and-runs leads to charges for Regina man

A stolen vehicle, several hit and runs, and a dangerous chase around south Regina have a 27-year-old man facing more than a dozen charges.

According to police, it started around 8:45 Monday morning when a grey sedan crashed into a tree on Cardinal Crescent, near Grant Road in the Whitmore Park area. Even though the car was significantly damaged, the driver managed to get away. Police said a description of the driver in this instance matched subsequent sightings. 

Then police believe the vehicle was involved in a hit and run a few blocks away on Culliton Crescent, which is behind Campbell Collegiate. The driver ran away from the car, abandoning it on Thornton Avenue, west of Albert Street.

At about 9:30 a.m. police believe the suspect in from the sedan stole a cleaning van just a block away on L’Arche Crescent, leaving a trail of water behind him. Now police said there were several crashes and near-misses involving the white van – one involving a pedestrian.

A half-hour later officer tried to contain the van to Mullin Avenue, near Broadway Avenue East, but the van got away. Then after the van had another near-miss with a semi, police were able to slow it down with a spike belt, but not stop it.

The van eventually hit a fence and a residential water line on Braun Bay, near University Park Drive and the driver was arrested.

Kenneth Patrick Morrison, 27, from Regina, is being charged on 13 counts: theft of motor vehicle, possession of stolen property over $5,000, four counts of failing to stop at the scene of an accident, flight while pursued by an officer, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, driving while disqualified, breach of probation, possession of marijuana, possession of cocaine, possession of a knife for a dangerous purpose.

Police are still looking into what happened on Monday morning, and anyone who might have information to add is asked to go to the front desk at Regina Police Headquarters to make a report.
