About 100 residents in the southeast area of Moose Jaw won’t be able to drink water from the tap for another three weeks.
A precautionary drinking water advisory affecting the University Heights, Pleasant View and River Park areas has been in effect since July 27 and is now extended until Sept. 9.
A water main was shut off at the time for necessary repairs, resulting in low chlorine levels. A failed attempt was made to restore the levels, so people in the affected areas were advised to continue boiling water for drinking or cooking. The tap water is still safe to use for hygienic purposes.
The city set up a portable water tank at the intersection of 2nd Avenue Southeast and Lillooet Street, and people are able to fill up their own containers with drinking water there.
The city said the advisory has been issued as a precaution, saying there is no confirmed contamination of water.
