Fort Qu’Appelle RCMP officers didn’t have to go far to catch one suspected drunk driver when she turned up on their doorstep.
In July, the detachment responded to 17 cases of impaired driving and laid charges in 14. The easiest catch, however, was when a woman drove into the parking lot of the police station July 24.
A constable was exercising outside the detachment and approached the 32-year-old woman driving a minivan. He identified himself as a police officer then noticed she was showing signs of being intoxicated.
The woman was escorted into the building where she was arrested. A search of the minivan revealed several open liquor containers.
The woman had originally been asking for help to find her missing daughter, but police determined the daughter wasn’t actually missing.
Melissa Lynn Gordon of Wynyard is charged with impaired driving, exceeding the limit of 0.08, driving while disqualified, operating an unregistered vehicle and having open liquor in the vehicle.
