The Saskatchewan Roughriders aren’t taking too long out to celebrate their first win of the season.
The team was back on the practice field Monday ready to take on Montreal on Saturday.
Mitchell Gale’s performance as the back-up quarterback in Friday’s victory means Darian Durant isn’t rushing back from his ankle injury.
The Riders’ number one isn’t sure if he’ll be ready to play on Friday against Montreal.
“I haven’t yet tested it out that much yet, you know we are still just taking it slow, making sure we don’t push it too much, too early,” he explained on the practice field.
“The main thing is just me making sure I am just good to go and I don’t put myself in vulnerable situations.”
Head Coach Chris Jones confirms Gale’s play in the team’s win over Ottawa will not impact how patient they’ll be with bringing Durant back.
“Mitchell did a good job and when Darian’s back healthy then he goes back on, it’s that simple. Mitchell Gale did exactly what we expected Mitchell Gale to do.”
Certainly Jones admits this next game is a test for Durant’s mobility
“There are five man, six, seven man pressure team, so for us to think we are going to put our QB back there if he is not able to be mobile and push off and do what he is expected to do as the starting QB, then we won’t put him in there.”
The team is comfortable with Mitchell Gale moving forward after throwing for 350 yards in the win against Ottawa on Friday.
