The rain didn’t slow down crime in Saskatoon this weekend.
Police reported Monday that just under 1,000 reports of crime or requests for assistance came in over the weekend – an increase from the average of around 900 calls.
In East Division there were 340 calls for service; nine were reports of break-ins to garages, sheds and underground parkades.
Police said two men were arrested after numerous vehicles were broken into on Saskatchewan Crescent and Grosvenor Avenue and items were stolen.
Officers in North West Division responded to just under 300 calls for service.
On Friday, patrol officers saw a stolen vehicle run a stop sign; they executed a traffic stop and arrested two men and two women. The four accused are facing charges of possessing stolen property, obstruction and breach of probation.
Police said around 360 calls for service came in to Central Division on the weekend ending with another stolen vehicle evading officers.
Around 2:30 a.m. Monday, officers found a stolen vehicle being driven on Bedford Road.
While the vehicle came to a stop initially, the driver sped away when police approached, evading patrol cars and fleeing west on 22nd Street.
Officers found the vehicle two kilometers west of the city after it had crashed into a power pole; a canine track found two boys, 14 and 16, hiding nearby. The teens are now facing a number of charges.
Police are still looking for a third occupant.
