The defending National Lacrosse League (NLL) champions are well on their way to another title.
The Saskatchewan Rush won game one of NLL west division final in Calgary Saturday night.
The game was tied as the Rush and Roughnecks entered the fourth, but Saskatchewan was able to score eight goals in that quarter for a final score of 16-10.
“It was pretty tight up until that point; it could have gone either way,” Rush head coach Derek Keenan told the Brent Loucks Show Monday.
“From about the halfway point of the third quarter on, our defence kind of took over the game.”
Game two will be in front of a massive crowd at SaskTel Centre on Saturday, May 21.
There could be a short game three that same night if a tie-breaker is needed.
The home-floor advantage was won by The Rush, who clinched first in the NLL west and earned a berth to round two of the playoffs.
Saskatchewan was 6-3 on the road during the season and beat Calgary in all four meetings.
Last Friday, Keenan pulled no punches when asked what he expects from the hometown crowd
“I’m sure it’ll be a zoo, no doubt,” he said.
“The evidence is already there that our fans are very capable, and I’m sure it’ll be fantastic.”
The team will put that fan power to good use, collecting donations for Fort McMurray during the May 21 playoff game in Saskatoon.
Anyone who contributes a minimum donation of $5 will receive a limited edition green light stick.
