Lower speed limit starts this week on Trans-Canada Highway east of Regina

Drivers on the Trans-Canada Highway east of Regina will be slowing down this week.

Crews are installing 80 kilometres per hour signs along the highway between the Queen City and Balgonie, which will take effect before the end of the week. The lower speed limit coincides with other safety measures being rolled out with the construction of the Regina Bypass.

“Overpasses at White City and Balgonie will be open to traffic in just two years, and the reduced, more consistent speed limit will help to ensure motorists and construction crews are as safe as possible during the busy construction period,” Highways and Infrastructure Minister Nancy Heppner said in a news release.

Along with the lower speed limit, enforcement will increase, signage will be simplified, and pavements markings are being improved along the route.

The speed limit on Highway 46 at Pilot Butte is also being lowered to 80 km/h.
