To speed up the development of carbon capture and storage technology in the world, BHP Billiton and SaskPower are partnering to share knowledge.
The companies signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a global knowledge centre to spread research and to reduce the cost and risk of new carbon capture and storage projects. Many details about the centre, including the total cost, exact location and opening date, are still to be determined. It is expected the centre will be built in Regina.
BHP Billiton said in a media release it is working with SaskPower on this effort to reduce the world’s emissions more quickly to respond to climate change.
There are other carbon capture, storage and transport projects in the world, but SaskPower’s Boundary Dam is the first to do all three, which is why BHP Billiton says it is working with SaskPower.
SaskPower has partnered with BHP Billiton to gain access to world markets to share its information.
