The RCMP in Saskatchewan is warning about a tax-related phone scam.
Several detachments in the province have received calls from concerned citizens.
One report said the scammer claimed to be an RCMP officer and advised the victim that there was a warrant for their arrest for tax-related reasons. The caller claimed to be calling on behalf of the Canada Revenue Agency. The caller is trying to collect money for unpaid taxes.
In another report, the scammer called the victim’s home and claimed to be an employee from the Canada Revenue Agency and threatened to send the RCMP to arrest the victim if they didn’t pay their taxes.
RCMP advises anyone who receives a similar call to hang up and not give any personal information. People are being reminded that if the call sounds suspicious, it likely is. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
The RCMP do not advise providing credit card or other personal information over the phone to someone you don’t know.
