Tensions bubbled over at a campaign event in Toronto today when Conservative supporters interrupted reporters during the prime minister’s press conference and hurled expletives at them as they were leaving the event.
Stephen Harper stuck to his main line, that Mike Duffy and his former chief of staff Nigel Wright were to blame for the affair — despite emails at the trial indicating others in his office were discussing the matter.
Meanwhile, an independent audit into Duffy’s Senate expenses was supposed to be confidential, but information still found its way into Harper’s office.
The senator’s fraud, breach of trust and bribery trial is hearing how the prime minister sought and obtained critical information on the examination of Duffy’s expenses.
Defence lawyer Donald Bayne is spending hours on the issue, in an aggressive cross-examination of Harper’s former chief of staff, Nigel Wright.
