Despite being there accused of murder, John Strang was calm standing in the prisoner box at provincial court on Thursday morning.
Strang faces a first degree murder charge in the death of Lisa Strang. Her body was found late Saturday night in the home she and John shared in McLean.
Strang wore a bright orange prison sweatshirt. He had a small goatee, his hair was cropped close to his head, and a pair of glasses was perched on his nose. He looked forward at the judge and kept his hands clasped behind his back as the judge read out his charges.
He also is charged with uttering death threats against another woman. Those charges were laid on Saturday, though it isn’t clear when the offense is alleged to have happened.
The appearance was short, less than two minutes, because Strang’s lawyer couldn’t make it to court. Strang’s voice was quiet but strong as he explained the situation to the judge.
An older woman and man sat quietly in the courtroom watching the proceedings. They left after Strang was finished, though they didn’t want to talk to reporters outside.
Strang will be back in court on Friday morning.
