There are new problems with the roll out of the new Canada Post community mail boxes.
In at least one instance in Moose Jaw, the key given out for a mailbox in the new community boxes can open more than just one.
Garry Blanchard found out when he was checking on the key he received.
“I wanted to confirm that my key would open (the mail box) and I opened my mail box. Out of curiosity, I tried another box with my key and it opened. On my way back … I saw another lady standing on the lawn, so I informed her of my findings and she asked what box, so I told her, and she said that it was her box.”
Blanchard said he called Canada Post about the problem.
“The lady gave me a confirmation number and told me that (the issue) would be high priority and someone from Canada Post would contact me Monday morning. I went down there and nothing has changed.”
This isn’t an isolated incident – there are reports from other cities in Canada of keys opening multiple mailboxes.
Blanchard said he’s worried that people could have access to private information.
“Other people could open their mail. If your mail starts going missing, you’ll know why.”
As of Tuesday evening, calls to Canada Post hadn’t been returned.
