Saskatoon police are thanking people who helped out Wednesday night in the chase of a break-and-enter suspect in the city.
It started after homeowners on 7th Street East, near Broadway Avenue, arrived home to find a man inside their home. He ran away and one of the homeowners started chasing him.
The chase went through the neighbourhood and down Broadway Avenue through the Broadway Business district. A number of people phoned police to report a man chasing another man down the street.
Another person along the way also picked up the chase until the suspect grabbed a pair of hedge shears from a backyard and started threatening people. The citizens backed off and officers arrived to take over.
Police officers found the suspect trying to hide in another backyard, when the suspect took off again police told him to stop. When the suspect wouldn’t listen, a police dog finished the chase – bringing the man down around 10th Street East.
The 59-year-old man was taken to hospital with minor dog bite injuries and will appear in court Thursday morning facing break-and-enter and assault with a weapon charges.
