Readers in Regina seem to be excited for the release of the long-awaited sequel to To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Go Set a Watchman.
On Tuesday the Regina Public Library hadn’t received its copies yet, but readers were clamouring for them.
“They are in demand,” said Andrea Newland, manager of collections at the Regina Public Library.
Of the 13 print copies for regular circulation, there were already 55 holds in place for people wanting to read them. There were 47 holds on the four audio-books, and for the seven e-book copies on the Overdrive platform, there were 138 holds.
“We do have, you know, a very dedicated audience to the e-book collection, and they will put their holds on as soon as they hear we’re getting a copy,” said Newland.
Newland said there was also one e-book copy of the novel in their 3M cloud, online library. However it’s not as popular of a platform, so there were no holds on it as of Tuesday afternoon.
If readers aren’t willing to wait the weeks – even months – it could take to wait in line for a copy from the library, they could take their chances with the Popular Picks. Newland said there were another 25 copies of the novel coming in which wouldn’t be reservable, and would only be lent for 10 days instead of the normal 21.
The Saskatchewan Information and Library Services Consortium, which serves libraries across the province, was getting 50 copies which would be spread around Saskatchewan.
