If you miss this weekend’s free fishing opportunity, you’ll have another chance later this summer.
The province is adding an additional weekend due to wildfire conditions in northern Saskatchewan. The date will be determined when fires are no longer threatening northern communities and evacuees have been sent back home.
Saturday and Sunday’s free fishing weekend will still go ahead as planned. Anglers are being asked to avoid wildfire-affected lakes.
Angling licences are not required during free fishing weekend. Fishing regulations are still in effect. National parks are not included.
Some wildfire evacuees have been requesting to camp at provincial parks. Sask Parks is offering free camping and park entry for people who have proof they are staying at an evacuation centre. Those individuals have been instructed to speak with social services and the Red Cross.
Some provincial parks have been refunding money to campers that are cancelling their visit because of the smoke, according to the province.
