The Saskatoon City Police are proposing the closure of the Little Chief Police Station.

Police Chief Clive Weighill says the satellite police station in the Riversdale area is no longer necessary.

“We haven’t had police resources in that site since 2007,” said Weighill.

Randy Pshebylo of the Riversdale Business Improvement District agrees, saying crime is better fought on the streets.

Crime has fallen 40 per cent in the Riversdale area over the last five years even with zero police presence in the station.

Closing the Little Chief Station would save the City Police Service $ 109,500 annually.
