Wilcox native Mandi Schwartz lost her battle with acute myeloid leukemia Sunday morning.

She was first diagnosed with the disease in December 2008 while she was playing hockey with the Ivy League’s Yale Bulldogs in the NCAA.

Schwartz received a stem cell transplant last August in a Seattle hospital, with initial success, but after returning home to Saskatchewan, the cancer returned.

She was 23.
