The Saskatoon Hilltops defeated the Winnipeg Rifles 43-9 at Gordie Howe Bowl on Sunday afternoon.

Starting quarterback Matt Karpinka threw first quarter touchdown passes to Chad Braun and Tom Shockey to help Saskatoon to an early 16-3 lead.

Graham Unruh scored the first of his two touchdowns in the 2nd quarter to help the home side to a 26-9 half time lead.

Both Shockey and Unruh scored third quarter touchdowns to lift the Hilltops to a 40-9 lead after three quarters of play.

The Hilltops had tremendous balance on offense using 12 different pass catchers and 8 different ball carriers. Karpinka’s numbers were: 19/34, 305 yds, 4 TD passes.

Saskatoon’s defense was dominant, forcing Winnipeg in to a number of punting situations.

Rifles starter John Kiesman had just 11 completions.

All of Winnipeg’s points came from the foot of Braden Mikoluff who kicked three field goals.

The 4 and 1 Hilltops now conclude the 2012 season with three straight games on the road starting on Saturday, Sept 22nd in Regina.
