Fire crews in Englefeld are cleaning up after a blaze gutted a local plastics manufacturing plant this morning.

Englefeld Police Chief David Regie said fire crews arrived at the Koenders Manufacturing Plant around 7:30 am.

“When we arrived on scene, the flames were already coming through the roof,” Regie said. “The building is completely gutted. They’re going to have to tear down and rebuild.”

Employees were in the building at the time but managed to escape unharmed and call 9-1-1.

Although fire crews have yet to determine the exact cause of the blaze, general manager Colin Tamme said it was caused by an “electrical issue.”

The manufacturing plant, located 25 minutes east of Humbolt, manufactures plastics including boat docks, farming equipment and spill containers.

“Where the fire was today, that’s there metal division where they make the molds for the plastics that go into the oven,” Regie said.

A fire commissioner will be at the scene tomorrow to determine the cause and origin.
