“They rescue dogs only in Saskatchewan, they bring up dogs mainly from up north and all the proceeds we raise today will be going towards vet bills because most of these dogs have been abused or neglected,” said Steve Dent, hydro therapist with Water Paws in Saskatoon.
Until 5 p.m., dog lovers are encouraged to come out to the Sutherland Beach off-leash dog park by Preston Crossing where they’ll find the Disco Dogs food truck. Owner Chuck Prongua said they’re offering half-priced hot dogs at the park, with half of the proceeds going to We All Need a Rescue.
Seeing the steps taken to take care of these friendly animals, Dent said fundraisers like these go a long way supporting the non-profit dog rescue.
“It's very expensive for these rescues to be running and we need events like this to get the word out that they are there and that people don't have to go to breeders to get a new family member,” Dent said. “Some dogs can run up to about $2,500 or more, adoption fees are only $250 so (they’re) pulling a lot of money out of pocket to help these dogs,” Dent said about the organization run by Brent McGowan and his wife.
Twelve rescue dogs will be at the park, and adoptions are welcome. Overall Dent said it’s a unique event meant to bring dog lovers and their pets together.
“You'll never be able to take your dog out for lunch so this is a good opportunity for people and their dogs to come out and have some lunch together.”
